Every region welcomes the baby-to-be with its own ceremony: godh bharai in the north, seemant or shrimant in Gujarat, dohale jevan in Maharashtra, seemantham in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, valaikappu in Tamil Nadu. The rituals differ, but the invitation always carries the same warmth — and the same practical details.
Here are messages you can copy in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and English, with tips for turning them into a gentle video invite.
What to include
- The ceremony name your family uses — write it exactly as you say it.
- The mother-to-be’s name (and the father-to-be’s, if you like).
- Who is inviting: in-laws, parents, or friends hosting.
- Day, date, time of the ceremony and the meal.
- Venue with the Google Maps link in the message.
- Dress code or colour, if the family has one (green and yellow are popular for godh bharai).
A note on wording: since prenatal sex determination is prohibited in India, keep the invite neutral. No “boy or girl?” themes; flowers, cradles, footprints, moons and stars all work beautifully.

“અ.સૌ.” (akhand saubhagyavati) is the respectful prefix for a married woman in Gujarati invitations. Some families write “શ્રીમંત” (shrimant) instead of “સીમંત” — use whichever your family says.
