A save the date is the first thing guests hear about your wedding, often months before the full invitation. It has only one job: make people block the date. Because it carries so little information, it can be playful, romantic or very simple — and a short video is a natural fit for WhatsApp and Instagram.
Here are ideas that work for Indian weddings, what to write, and when to send it.
What a save the date needs (and what it doesn’t)
Include: both names, the date (or dates, for a multi-day wedding), the city, and “invitation to follow”. Leave out: function-by-function timings, venue addresses and RSVP. They may still change, and they belong in the main invitation.
Keep the video 10 to 30 seconds long. One to three scenes are enough.
10 save the date video ideas
These are ideas to choose a style from. Our save the date designs cover some of them, and more are being added through the wedding season.
1. The photo reveal
One good photo of the two of you — from the roka, the engagement or a simple shoot on the terrace — with the names and date appearing over it. Simple, and it works for every family.
2. The calendar with the date circled
A calendar page with your wedding date marked in red (or with a little kalash or heart). Easy to understand in two seconds, even with the sound off.
3. Traditional and auspicious
For families who prefer a more traditional feel: a Ganesh or kalash opening, the names, and “Shubh Vivah” with the date. Soft shehnai music. This style is easy to forward to the elders’ WhatsApp group.
4. The travel ticket
For destination weddings: a boarding pass or train ticket design with “Destination: Udaipur” and the date as the “departure”. Guests understand at once that they need to plan travel.
5. Two photos: then and now
A childhood photo of each of you next to a recent one — or the first photo you took together next to the engagement photo. Gentle, and always gets reactions in family groups.
6. The countdown
“100 days to go” or “Only 3 months left” with the date. Good for couples who want to send a second reminder closer to the day.
7. The bilingual card
Names and date in English, a line in Hindi or Gujarati (“शुभ विवाह”, “શુભ લગ્ન”). It reads well for both younger and older guests.
8. The monogram
Your initials in a simple monogram with the date beneath. Elegant, works without photos, and suits couples who prefer not to share pictures.
9. “We said yes”
For the engagement itself: a ring photo and “We said yes! Save the date for …”. Doubles as an engagement announcement.
10. The family save the date
Sent by the parents rather than the couple: “Sharma and Verma families invite you to save the date for the wedding of Rahul & Priya”. Works well where elders send the invites.

When to send it
Two to six months before the wedding, depending on how far guests travel. Destination weddings and guests coming from abroad need the longer end. Our wedding invitation timeline shows when the save the date, the main invite and the reminders go out.
How to make a save the date video with Prasang Invites
The steps are the same as for a full invitation, just shorter:
- Pick a short template from the wedding designs — one to three scenes.
- Open it in Easy edit and type your names, the date and the city. Use Remove on lines you don’t need, like a venue.
- Tap the photo in the design to replace it with yours, and drag or pinch to place it in the frame.
- Choose the music, then tap Preview and watch it once with sound.
- Download the MP4 and send it on WhatsApp, or post it to your Instagram story.

Small things that make a big difference
- Use your best photo, not many photos. One strong image is better than a quick slideshow.
- Write the date in full. “12 December 2026” is clear everywhere; “12/12” is clear only for this date.
- Check the city name and the year twice. People screenshot save the dates and refer back to them for months.
- Send the main invitation in the same style. Guests then connect the two at once. See our wedding invitation video page for matching designs.
